Dhaka – The city bus services resumed their operations in the capital Thursday after the government withdrew its embargo on the gate-locked or sitting services. Though the service of the buses was available for the commuters but there were allegations that the bus conductors realised exorbitant fare from the passengers in different routes.
When the government started crackdown on the get-locked and sitting services on April 15 and made all services local, the bus owners hid their bus services which led to immense sufferings of the commuters.
But the government on Wednesday backtracked from its stance that the sitting services would again run till further directives are issued within 15 days.
The transport owners yesterday fielded their buses including old and new ones and the conductors charged fare as per their will without caring the fare chart.
Most of the buses on Mirpur to Gulistan, Azimpur to Uttara, Gulistan to Jatrabari did not have the fare chart and the buses which hung the chart did not bother it, rather they charged more.
As per the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) bus fare the minimum fare for first thee kilometres is Tk 7 but the buses are charging Tk 10 in most of the cases.
The bus fare from Jatrabari to Gulistan is Tk 5 but the Trans Silva Transport and 8 No Minibus is charging Tk 10 and the Shikor Paribahan is charging Tk 7.
The Everest Bus bound for Gulistan charged Tk 15 from Mirpur to Farmgate but the BRTA fare is Tk 10.
When the mobile court was active in the last few days, the fare of the buses were a little bit less.
Conductor of the Silva Paribahan said, “We have nothing to do. The owners have fixed the fare and we are taking it.”
The Dipon Paribahan bound for Matijheel from Mohammadpur started the sitting service again but it did not charge additional fare. Earlier, the bus used to provide half fare for the students but it has been stopped. The minimum fare was Tk 10. – Staff Reporter
