Foreigners’ murder may effect Bangladesh businesses

A trade body fears the identical murder of two foreign nationals within a week might take a toll on Bangladesh’s export and foreign investment. The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in a statement on Tuesday condemned the killing of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella and Japanese Kunio Hoshi. It demanded of the authorities to quickly bring the killers to justice.Tavella and Kunio were shot dead in Dhaka and Rangpur on Sept 28 and Oct 3.The DCCI urged the government to arrange adequate security for foreign buyers and foreigners in Bangladesh to keep export uninterrupted. It feared the killings could tarnish Bangladesh’s image and upset the rising export trend. The government has ruled out possibilities of militant group Islamic State’s involvement with the identical murders.Foreign diplomats on Tuesday asked the government to provide security for their nationals living in Bangladesh.People involved with tourism say the sector is already feeling the heat as many foreigners have cancelled or postponed their trip.
