Dhaka-Yangon border talks begin in capital

A four-day high level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar Police Force (MPF) began at BGB’s Peelkhana headquarters here on Wednesday.
BGB Additional Directorate General and Northeast Region Commander M Latiful Haidar is leading a 16-member Bangladesh delegation while his Myanmar counterpart deputy chief of Police Brigadier General Thein Oo the six-member Myanmar delegation to the meeting. The conference will conclude on Sunday (December 21), while a joint record of discussions (JRD) is expected to be signed on Saturday (December 20) as part of the conference.
The high level border conference is being held as a continuation of the fruitful frontier meeting between director general of BGB and Chief of Police, Myanmar Police Force held in Myanmar capital in June this year.
The main objective of the conference is to improve border security through good relations between the forces of the two close neighbouring countries.
The Bangladesh side is discussing various border related security issues, including curbing smuggling of drugs especially Yaba tablets and addicted goods, illegal trespassing of Myanmar nationals into Bangladesh territory. – UNB
