Dhaka’s Banani rape accused Shafat, Sadman ‘confess’


Dhaka – Shafat Ahmed and Sadman Sakif, prime accused in the Banani rape case made confessions admitting their involvement in the city’s Banani rape incident, before two Dhaka courts on Thursday.Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib and Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury recorded their confessional statements under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Earlier, Ismat Ara Ami, Investigation Officer of the case produced them before the court after completion of their remand. Later, the metropolitan magistrates sent them to the jail.
On May 12, a Dhaka court placed Shafat and Sakif on six-day and 5-day remand respectively. On May 6, two private university students filed a rape case against them with Banani Police Station.
On March 28, two students were allegedly raped at the Raintree Hotel in Banani. Earlier, they were invited there to attend a birthday programme of Apan Jewellers’ owner Dildar’s son Shafat Ahmed. Later, Shafat and Sakif were arrested from Sylhet in the case. – Special Correspondent
