Dipon’s killer on remand


Dhaka-The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday placed Abdus Sabur, who was arrested from Tongi on Saturday in connection with the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipon and murder attempt on blogger Ahmedur Rashid Tutul on a six-day remand.Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam of the court passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Bahauddin Farooki produced Sabur to the court with a ten-day remand plea.
Detectives arrested Abdus Sabur alias Raju alias Saad alias Samad alias Sujon from Tongi railway station of Gazipur on Saturday. Following the confessional statement of Sumon Hossain, another accused in the case, arrested on June 16, DB police conducted a drive and arrested Sabur.
On October 31, last year, two blogger publishers- Ahmedur Rashid Tutul and Faisal Arefin Dipan were hacked brutally in two separate attacks.
Later, Faisal Arefin Dipan, owner of Jagriti Publications, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital while Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, owner of Shuddhashwar, could survive the attack. -Court Correspondent
