Direct fight would be held between the candidates nominated by ruling Awami League and Islami Andolon Bangladesh
of Charmonair Pir in Barguna-2 by-election on today Thursday.Although main opposition BNP boycotted the election,
but BNP support and national issues will decide the result.No violation of election conduct rule and no incident
of violence were reported. All preparations completed for conducting the election freely and fairly. Total 3,943
members of different law enforcing agencies including BGB,RAB,Coast Guard, Police, APBN and Ansar
deployed in the election areas, vote centers  and started patrolling consisting 18 striking forces, Mustafa Faruk,
Barisal regional election officer and retuning office of the by-election said.
Shawkat Hachanur Rahman Rimon, resigned Pathrghata upazila chairman,with ‘Boat’ symbol contesting as AL nominated
candidate against Golam Sarwar Hiru, former lawmaker (1986) and former Patharghata unionchairman with “Hand Fan
(Haat Pakha) contesting as candidate from Islami Andolon Bangladesh, in this by-election.
However as main opposition BNP boycotted the by-election under present government and present parliament would be
remained valid only two-week after the by-election of October 3, so election fever was not grip the area like previous
general elections , but it became a prestige issue for the both parties,  Hasib Hossain , a voter of Patharghata said.
On other hand local election observers apprehended that although BNP not participating in the election, but their
support to anti-AL candidate would play a vital role in the election.Like the city corporation elections, this
by-election may be considered as the contest between the ruling and opposition alliances and national issues
would be more important than local issues and candidates, said Barguna upazila BNP president Mahbub Alam alias Faruk
Molla.IAB candidate have vote banks among the followers of Charmonair Pir in Betagi and Bamna upazilas, where AL
candidate Rimon was not familiar.AL candidate may be defeated due to factional differences between the
local leaders over giving nomination to son of an alleged collaborator of Pakistan occupation forces, an AL leader
of Patharghata denying disclosing identity said.Besides local AL leaders also not happy about participation of Barisal
city AL president and defeated BCC Mayor candidate Shawkat Hossain Hiron and factional activists clashed in an election
propagation meeting in front of him on Sunday at Khas Kachari ground of Betagi upazila town, he added.
BCL, BJL and AL cadres attacked and foiled a meeting of IAB candidate Hiru at Betagi alleging that Charmonair Pir
narrated Prime Ministerand AL chairperson as an atheist on Tuesday night, alleged Mawlana Nur Hossain,
an election worker of IAB candidate.However Dhirendra Dev Nath Shamvu, Barguna district AL president and
lawmaker said AL has strong hold among the local voters and Rimon as a candidate was popular and have clean image
and so will win in the election.
Mustafa Faruk, RO of the by-election said Barguna-2 constituency consisted with total 2, 31,173 voters from Patharghata
(1, 04,468),Bamna (47,926) and Betagi (78,779) upazilas.There were 3 upazilas, 2 municipalities, 18 unions, and  have
96 vote centers with 528 polling booths to cast votes of 1,18,385 male and 1,12, 788 female voters.
This seat of national parliament became vacant after the death of AL lawmaker Golam Sabur Tulu in a road accident on July
26, 2013.
