The biennial district council of district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was held at Town Hall auditorium in the city yesterday amid huge enthusiasm and festivity among the leaders and workers of the organisation.Earlier, leaders and activists of BCL led by its central committee Vice-President Reaz Uddin Reaz went to Fotehpur village in Pirganj upazila and placed wreath at the grave of nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr M A Wazed Miah and offered Fateha there.Hundreds of leaders and activists of BCL from all eight upazilas and Rangpur city units gathered at the Town Hall premises with colourful processions, banners and festoons amid huge enthusiasm and fanfare turning the area into a festive place. Later, the central BCL leaders and leaders of Awami League (AL) arrived when its central committee President H M Badiuzzaman Sohag inaugurated the council through hoisting national and organisation flags with the honourable invited guests.Organising Secretary of AL Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury MP attended the biennial council as the chief guest with President of Rangpur district unit of BCL Dhanojeet Ghosh Taposh in the chair.Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, city AL President Shafiar Rahman Shafi, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, former BCL central committee President Mahmud Hassan Ripan and former BCL Vice-president Biswanath Sarker Bitu, addressed as the special guests.General Secretary of the central committee of BCL Siddique Nazmul Alam took part in the council as the main discussant.Former Vice-presidents of BCL central committee Nafiul Karim Nafa, Jashem Bin Hossain Jummon and Monwarul Islam Masud, Deputy-programme and Planning Affairs Secretary of BCL Mohammad Selim, President of Begum Rokeya University unit of BCL Mehedi Hassan Shishir, its General Secretary Mostafa Mahmud Hassan addressed as the special speakers.
General Secretary of Rangpur district unit of BCL Fakhrul Hassan Lieu conducted different sessions of the daylong council that ended in the evening.Narrating glorious pasts and contribution of BCL to different democratic and pro-people movements and the War of Liberation, the speakers in the council called upon the leaders and activists of BCL for upholding the reputation and serving the people.They suggested the leaders and activists of BCL for devoting themselves to studies for acquiring proper knowledge in building themselves as worthy and ideal citizens of the soil to serve the cause of the nation in future.They asked all concerned to keep vigil against intrusion of anti-liberation Shibir activists into BCL and also cautioned for taking stern actions if anyone was found to be involved with destroying image of the reputed students’ organisation. -BSS, Rangpur
