Two years ago on the afternoon of March 20, 2016 veteran actor Parveen Sultana Diti died after fighting cancer for two years.Bangladesh Chalachitra Shilpi Samiti had organised a milad mahfil and commemoration ceremony at BFDC’s Shilpi Samiti study room in her honour on Tuesday, March 20. Her family organised a separate milad mahfil at Sonargaon Jame Masjid at her hometown Narayanganj. They had also organised lunch for the orphans and poor kids there.
The national award winning actor was born on March 31, 1965 at Sonargaon of Narayanganj division. Diti’s film career started career with a 1984 Bangladesh Television talent hunt show “Notun Mukher Shondhane.” Her first film was “Dak Diye Jai,” directed by Udayan Chowdhury which did not get released at the time. Diti’s first film which had a theatrical release was Azmul Huda Mithu’s “Ami e Ustad.”
As time went on, Diti kept her craftsmanship intact onscreen. She had acted in more than 200 films in her lifetime. Subhash Dutta’s film “Shami Stri,” where Diti played the role of Alamgir’s wife, won her the first national award on 1987.
She is also well known for her performances in films like- “Hiramoti,” “Bhai Bondhu,” “Lady Inspector,” “Khuner Bodla,” “Ajker Hangaama,” “Shesh Upohar,” “Chorom Aghat,” “Oporadhi,” “Kaliya,” “Akash Chowa Bhalobasha” and more.
Diti’s last film was Redwan Rony’s “Icecream” which was released on the same year she passed away.
Diti was very busy on television even a few years before her death. She was a regular actor in different TV dramas and daily soaps. She even hosted a popular cooking show and directed quite a few TV fictions herself.
Diti’s first marriage was with filmstar Sohel Chowdhury. They are survived by two kids- Lamia and Deepto. Later on, she married famous filmstar Ilias Kanchon after Chowdhury’s death, but her second marriage did not last long either. She lived a happy and fulfilled life with her two children till her untimely demise.
Many celebrities remembered the veteran actor on her death anniversary. Acclaimed Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan wrote on her official Facebook profile that Diti is always with her in her heart and that we did not and can not forget her. She also expressed the infinite amount of love for her in her post.
