Doctor’s want to take off Khadiza’s ventilator machine

Dhaka-Doctors attending Khadiza at the Square Hospital would like to take off her ventilator machine on a trial basis from Wednesday to see how she reacts, according to hospital sources.“Her (Khadiza) condition has remained stable. We want to go for machine trial for removal of her ventilator on Wednesday. We will be able to say that she is improving, if she remains stable for 48 hours after removal of her ventilator,” said one of the attending doctors preferring anonymity.
Khadiza’s uncle Abdul Kuddus said her condition has not changed further since the previous two days.
He appealed the Prime Minister to send his niece to abroad for better treatment.
The young woman was attacked with a machete by a stalker in Sylhet last Monday. After her operation he was kept in the intensive care unit of the Square Hospital and put on life support machine for artificial ventilation.
Khadiza was able to move her eyes and arms on Saturday. This has improved her chances of survival, according to her doctors.
Rumana, a helpdesk officer at the hospital, said doctors did not give them anything new to inform the media about Khadiza’s condition.
Khadiza Akter Nargis was brutally hacked at by Badrul Alam, a machete-wielding BCL leader, when she was coming out of the examination hall on Monday afternoon. -STAFF REPORTER
