Dr. Zafrullah Chow serves one-hour for contempt

Dr. Zafarullah Chowdhury had to suffer imprisonment at the ICT for one hour on Wednesday as he did not agree to apologise for making a statement in respect of its verdict against David Bergman.
While most of the 50 noted citizens tendered apology to the ICT Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury decided to contest the contempt notice on the ground that his statement did not constitute committing contempt of the court. The court decided otherwise and awarded him one-hour imprisonment.Zafrullah Chowdhury along with his wife Shirin Huq and other rights activists walked out of the old-high-court-turned ICT in smiling faces.
In another contempt notice that Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury has earlier decided to contest, charges were not framed against him as he refused to appoint a lawyer and expressed his decision to fight the case himself.
In that contempt notice Zafrullah Chowdhury was told that he had committed contempt on stating that the butcher Quader of Mirpur Quader Mollah – who received capital punishment for war crimes – was responsible for mass killings during the war. – News Desk
