Dredger capsize: 2 bodies recovered in Shitalakkhya River

Dhaka – The bodies of two workers, who went missing after a dredger sank in the Shitalakkhya River at Boroni in Shreepur upazila of Gazipur on Tuesday, were recovered from the river on Thursday, UNB news agency reported.The deceased were identified as Rubel, 30, and Sohag, 32. They hailed from Bagerhat and Barisal districts respectively.
Sub-inspector of Shreepur Police Station Hasibur Rahman said the capsized dredger which was engaged in extracting sand from the Shitalakkhya River sank on Tuesday afternoon.
Rubel and Sohag were reported missing following the accident.
On information, fire service divers went to the spot to rescue them but returned empty-handed.
Divers of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) recovered the bodies of the two workers from the cabin of the sunken dredger around 11am on Thursday, said SI Hasibur.
However, it was not still clear what caused the sinking of the dredger.
