DU withdraws expulsion of Esha, hall mates afraid

Dhaka, April 18 – The Dhaka University authority on Wednesday withdrew the expulsion order on Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall BCL unit president Iffat Jahan Esha of the University who allegedly assaulted three resident students of the movement for joining quota reform movement.The decision was made at a disciplinary board meeting headed by Dhaka University VC Akhtaruzzaman, DU proctor Golam Rabbani confirmed.
Previous decision was revoked as the allegation against Esha was proved wrong by the investigative body of the university and the detective branch of police, added Rabbani.
The disciplinary board also slapped a show caused notice against twenty-six resident students of the Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall who were ‘identified for creating chaos’ on the night of April 11 at the dormitory of the university, said DU VC Akhtaruzzaman.
Earlier on 13 April, Ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League reinstated its Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall unit president Iffat Jahan Esha of within 48 hours of her expulsion.
Iffat and her fellows allegedly assaulted botany fourth year student Morsheda Khatun, which triggered protests at about 12:30am on April 11.
Some recordings went viral heard Iffat using abusive words and threatening fellow students for joining protests for reform of quota in government jobs.
In the records, Esha also threatened that girls would be kicked out of the dormitory if they joined the protests.
On April 11, the university proctor, Golam Rabbani, said that Iffat had been expelled from the university and ‘Esha said she was sorry for what she did.’
Footage that went viral showed that Iffat was given garland of shoes after she said sorry.
A number of students at the female dormitory alleged that they were afraid of further harassment by Iffat as her follows were spreading ‘hate-speech’ and threats naming a number of girls. – Staff Reporter
