The five-day colourful and joyous Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community,ended peacefully in the city and district as elsewhere in the country today through the immersion of the goddess Durga.
Police and Hindu community leaders said the immersion, concluding ceremony of the annual worship, was held at different places in the city and district in a peaceful manner with participation of large number of devotees.Patenga sea beach area, the main venue of immersion, was vibrating with the presence of good number of Hindu community members from sexagenarians to adolescents in the afternoon to say
goodbye to the idols of Durga.Earlier, hundreds of Hindu devotees attired with their best possible fine dresses thronged different
Puja Mandops including J M Sen Hall, Chatteshwary Temple and Hazari lane temple to bid a farewell as well as seeking blessings from Goddess Durga.The people of Hindu Community also uttered ‘Shuva Bijoya’ and exchanged greetings with each other for better future.
Police said the five-day long Durga Puja functions were celebrated at around 1,690 Puja Mandops in the city.Meanwhile, city mayor M Manzur Alam attended the immersion programme at Patenga sea beach as the chief guest.Besides, the emersion programme was also held at Parki sea beach, Anwara, Baruni Snanghat at Kattoli and Gangabari of Patherghata. –BSS, Chittagong
