BNP yesterday alleged that the ruling party people are violating the election code of conduct as what it said the Election Commission is playing a role of “government loyalist”.“A so-called municipal election is gong to be held in the country. We are going to the violation of the rules everyday but the Election Commission prefers to remain deaf and dumb because they are loyalist to the government,” said BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman while addressing a discussion meeting at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium. The BNP organised the meeting to mark the Victory Day.
Noman said they are ascertained that the municipality polls would not be held in a free and fair manner and it would not reflect the public opinion.
“They are going to hold January 5 like farcical polls,” he claimed.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was scheduled to preside over the meeting but he could not attend the function due to illness.
Noman said they would sweep the polls through the ballots of people. “But if we lose that will imply that they defeated us through stuffing the ballots,” he observed.
He however claimed that the BNP would sweep in 80 per cent of mayoral posts if the elections are held in a free and fair manner.
The BNP leader said they would continue the movement until the democracy would be restored.
Another vice chairman Maj (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed called upon he people to get united for restoration of democracy.
“We have to restore democracy if we want to implement the sprit of the liberation war,” he said.
Kallayan Party chief Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Juba Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Shirin Sultana and Secchasebok leader Monir Hosain, among others, also spoke n the occasion.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi conducted the programme.
