EC remind candidates not to violate code of conduct


The Election Commission on Wednesday sent letters to 20 political parties, participating in the December-30 municipal election, reminding them of the election code of conduct.The letters, signed by Deputy Secretary of EC Secretariat Shamsul Alam, were sent to the general secretaries or secretaries general of the political parties, including Awami League and BNP, on Wednesday night.

Shamsul Alam said the Commission sought cooperation from the 20 parties in abiding by the code of conduct while conducting campaign by party chiefs and leaders in favour of their respective candidates.

Out of 40 registered political parties, the 20 parties fielded their mayoral candidates to contest the municipal election.

The 20 parties are AL, BNP, Jatiya Party (Ershad), Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod, NPP, Workers’ Party, Jatiya Party-JP (Manzu), Khelafat Majlish, CPB and Bangladesh Islami Front, Islami Oikya Jote, LDP, Biplabi Workers Party, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, BSD, Tarikat Federation, BNF, Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) and PDP.
