Eminent citizens, political leaders demand Manna’s release


Eminent citizens and political leaders in a joint press statement issued on Sunday demanded release of Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convener, Nagorik Oikya. They said that Manna, a former general secretary of Chucsu and former vice president of Ducsu, has been detained for nine months without trial.The signatories to the statement who included former adviser to caretaker government and president of Sujan, Hafizuddin Khan, JSD president and former minister ASM Abdur Rob, CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim, founder of Gonoshasthya Kendra, Dr, Zafrullah Chowdhury, adviser of Nagorik Oikya, SM Akram, Sujan secretary Badiul Alam Majumder, general secretary of BSD, Khalequzzaman Bhuiyan, CPB presidium member Haider Akbar Khan Rano, Gono Forum general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Mantu, Dhaka University professor AKM Fazlul Huq said the uncompromising political stance of Mahmudur Rahman Manna in the process and culture of democracy was quite known to all.
They alleged that Manna has been subjected to mental torture after his arrest. The people were concerned that proper treatment was not being organized for ailing Manna. Protesting against   this the eminent citizens and leaders demanded immediate release of Mahmudur Rahman Manna, opportunity to defend himself and get proper justice,
Other signatories to the statement included: Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Sultan Mohammad Mansur, Prof. Asif Nazrful, Syed Abu Zafar, Saiful Haque, Abdul Malek Ratan, Prof. Nurul Islam, Prof. Dilara Chowdhury, Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Naimul Islam Khan, Rubayat Ferdous, Naim Jahangir, Engr. SI Khan and Engr Inamul Huq.
