Enhance education quality by relating to real life: Muhith


Dhaka – Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday stressed the the need for relating education, teaching and research to real life for the improvement of its quality.
The minister said this while addressing the opening session of a national workshop on HEQEP achievements-2015 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.Muhith said, “In order to have fruitful education as well as get the values of education, it must be related to the reality of life.”
He also said education-industry relationship, education-agriculture relationship and education-business relationship are very much important for higher education. “Higher education gives ideas and it also introduces innovation.”
Noting that the government is committed to improving the quality of education, the Finance Minister said it has taken various initiatives to increase the scope of higher education as well as its quality. “Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) is one of the government’s initiatives in this regard,” he added.
University Grants Commission chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, acting country director of World Bank Christine Kimes, acting education secretary ASM Mahmood and project director of HEQEP Dr Gauranga Chandra Mahanta, among others, spoke at the programme held with Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in the chair.
The main objective of the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project is to improve the quality and relevance of the teaching and research environment in higher educational institutions through encouraging both innovation and accountability within universities and by enhancing the technical and institutional capacity of the higher education sector.
The government and the World Bank are financing 13 percent and 87 percent of the project respectively. – News Desk
