Ensure govt services for rural people: Speakers


Speakers at a views-sharing meeting today stressed reaching all available government services easily in a hassle-free manner ensuring complete accountability to the rural people for accelerating national uplift.The pace of rural development could be accelerated further through maintaining the present rate of providing services to the commoners by the upazila level government departments ensuring more transparency, they said. They were addressing the meeting organised by Karmojibi Nari under its ‘Uniting Farm-workers, flourishing their leadership and establishing rights’ Project at Sadar upazila parishad auditorium with assistance of Manusher Janno Foundation.Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Priyosindhu Talukder attended and addressed the meeting as the chief guest with district unit President of Karmojibi Nari, an NGO, Masuda Rahman Anu in the chair.Heads of upazila level government departments, public representatives, community leaders, entrepreneurs of the Union Digital Centres, female and male farm-workers, activists of Karmojibi Nari and civil society members were present.Heads of the upazila level government departments narrated the fields of providing services to the common people by their respective department, related policies and information for ensuring transparency and accountability in the process. The speakers put special emphasis on creating proper and adequate awareness among both the service providers in government offices, organisations and service recipients, including the common people, for attaining sustainable rural developments.The speakers stressed removing barriers, if any, in reaching all government services available at the upazila levels to the backward rural people and preventing repression on women and children, child marriage, dowry, divorce and polygamy.They suggested all service providers to ensure easier access to information for poorer people about vulnerable group feeding and vulnerable group development programmes, old age and maternal allowances and health care and welfare services.Living standard of rural people would be improved and the ongoing development process accelerated further if the available government services at the upazila and union levels were made easier in reaching at their doorsteps, they said.The chief guest put emphasis on coordinated efforts of the government, non-government and local service providing organisations and public representatives to speed up uplift and empowerment of the rural people, including women and children. -BSS, Rangpur
