Ex-Chief Justice Latifur Rahman passes away

Dhaka, June 6 – Former Chief Justice and former Chief Adviser of Caretaker Government Latifur Rahman died of old age complications at a hospital in the capital early Tuesday. He was 81.He breathed his last at Samorita Hospital, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan.
He left behind his wife and three daughters and many well wishers.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have expressed deep sorrows at the demise of the former Chief Adviser.
They expressed their condolences in separate messages, said Shairul Kabir Khan.
Latifur Rahman was born in Jessore on 1 March 1936.
In 1979, he became the Justice as temporary basis in the High Court Division in Bangladesh.
In 1981, he became the permanent Justice in the same court division.
On 15 January 1991, he became the Justice of Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Later, he became the Chief Justice on 1 January 2000. He retired on 28 February 2001.
He was the chief adviser of the 2001 (15 July 2001 to 10 October 2001) caretaker government that oversaw the eighth parliamentary election in Bangladesh. – UNB
