A case was filed on Sunday against five Rab personnel, including former commanding officer of Rab-11 Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, in connection with the abduction of two BNP leaders in Comilla.
The two BNP leaders — Saiful Islam Hiru, a former MP and president of Laksham upazila unit BNP and Humayun Kabir Pervez, president of Laksham municipality unit BNP, remained missing since November 27, 2013. Humayun Kabir’s father, Rangu Mia, filed the case with Comilla No 6 Judicial Magistrate Court on Sunday.
The other accused in the case are Rab-11 Comilla Company-2 Commander Major Shahed Razi, deputy assistant director (DAD) Shahjahan Ali, sub-inspector Kazi Sultan Ahmed and Asit Kumar Roy.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Sabrina Nargis took cognizance of the case and asked the officer-in-charge of Laksham Police Station to submit the probe report after investigation.
According to the case statement, the accused Rab members arrested Hiru, Humayun and Jasimuddin on their way to Comilla on November 27, 2013.
However, the Rab men handed Jasim over to Laksham Police Station but Hiru and Humayun are still missing.
Hiru and Humayun had an enmity with Mojir Ahmed, a BNP rebel candidate over the upazila election, the case statement said.
Earlier, police arrested two ex-Rab personnel, including Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, former commanding officer of Rab-11, from Dhaka Cantonment area early Saturday in connection with the much-talked-about Narayanganj seven murders, including Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker.
Later, police took them on a five-day remand for interrogation into the gruesome murders. – UNB
