Dhaka – Former Bangladesh national team footballer Akhteruzzaman Khan Babu has passed away at a hospital in India. He was 58.Babu, who was suffering from old age complications along with diabetes and hypertension, breathed his last at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, India around 6am on Monday, said a press release issued by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) on Tuesday.The veteran footballer survived by his wife, two sons and a host of relatives to mourn his death.Babu joined in Bangladesh national side as a regular member during 1982-83.Besides, he had a dazzling club career playing for Dhaka Abahani Ltd, Brothers Union, Wari Club and Surjatarun Football Club.BFF President Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed expressed deep shock at the death of Babu and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.BFF senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedy, its general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag, its executive committee members, standing committee members and officials also expressed profound shock at his death.UNB
