A Barisal court on Monday sentenced an expelled student of Barisal University(BU) to death for killing another student of the university.The condemned convict is Russel Mian, a student of Management Department of the university.According to case records, Russel hacked Saoda, a fresher of Accounting Department of the university, in Brown Compound area of the city on September 4 in 2013, leaving her seriously injured.She was rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, and, later, airlifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where she succumbed to her injuries on September 5.The Barisal University authorities expelled Russel following the incident.
Later, Saoda’s mother Saheda Begum filed a case in this connection.After examining the evidences and 17 if the 29 charge sheeted witnesses in the case, Barisal District and Sessions Judge Anwar Haque passed the order on Monday.
15-year-old boy tortured over ‘stealing’ looking glass in Jessore Benapole, Jun 1 (UNB) – A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured as he was tortured by some local people at Shikarpur Bazar in Sharsha upazila early Monday.
The victim was identified as Jakir Hossain, 15, son of Mojibur Rahman of Narikelbaria village of the upazila
Witnesses said Shohrab, a tea stall owner at Shikarpur Bazar along with his two sons and others in the locality tied the 15-year-old boy to a three and beat him with an iron rod, accusing him of sealing a pair of looking glasses, around 12:30am.At one state, the torturers spilled boiled water in the boy’s body, leaving him seriously injured.Besides the tea stall owner and his two sons, Jamir, a worker of a welding workshop of the area, and UP member of nearby Khamarpara village Abdul, were allegedly involved in the torture.Later, as the news spread, Lakkhanpur UP chairman Kamal Hossain rushed to the spot and rescued the boy.He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment.Sharsha Police Station officer-in-charge Inamul Haque confirmed the incident.A case was filed against five people in connection with the incident. -UNB, Barisal
