Fakhrul accuses Govt of killing opposition leaders

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday alleged that the government was using the law enforcing agencies and their party cadres to kill their opponent political leaders and activists to retain power.
In a statement issued protesting the killing of BNP leader Ismail Hossain at Kaliganj in Jhenidah district on Tuesday, he said the nation was reeling under the misrule of the Awami League led “illegal government” that assumed power through holding farcical polls on January 5.He condemned the barbaric and heinous attack on Ismail Hossain who died due to excessive bleeding.
The BNP leader demanded immediate arrest of the killers of former panel mayor of Jenaidah pourasabha and meting out exemplary punishment to them.
He said the country now turned into a greater valley of death as killing, enforced disappearance and abduction continued.
“The bloodshed was taking place there. The government buried the fundamental rights and the elements of democracy enshrined in the Constitution,” he added.
Referring to the growing killing, enforced disappearance and abduction, he said the people are suffering from sense of insecurity.
The BNP spokesman accused the government of failing to run the country and said they were resorting to cruelty to tame the people.
“If we fail to rescue independence, sovereignty and democracy from the clutches of the illegal government, our existence as a nation will be at stake,” he said.
Meanwhile, addressing a discussion meeting of Khelafat-e-Majlish at the National Press Club, alleged that the elite force RAB has been snatching the lives and wealth of people instead of ensuring their safety and security.
“Now, the RAB has took position against the people and question has arisen about the necessity of RAB,” he added.
Ameer of Khelafat-e-Majlish Maulana Ishaque presided over the meeting. – Staf Reporter
