Falu quits BNP vice chairman post


Hours after he was made a BNP vice chairman, Mosaddek Ali Falu on Saturday quit his post on ‘personal and health ground’.Sources at BNP said Falu’s resignation letter was sent to BNP’s Nayapaltan central office around 4pm.In the resignation letter, Falu thanked BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for making him BNP’s vice chairman of its new executive committee.“I think, it won’t be possible for me to be there in the post on personal and health ground. So, I’ve decided to resign from the new committee’s vice chairman post,” he wrote in the resignation letter.

BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan said he talked to Falu, who is now in Thailand for medical treatment, over phone about the issue. “He just (Falu) told me he has resigned. He’s not given me any reason for his resignation.”Earlier around 12 noon, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the 502-member party executive and 19-member standing committees and 73-member chairperson advisory council at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayaplatan central office.Falu was made one of the 37 vice chairmen of the BNP’s new executive committee. In the previous committee, he was one of the members of BNP chairperson’s advisory council members.Meanwhile, BNP’s new executive committee’s assistant publicity affairs secretary Shamimur Rahman Shamim also sent a letter to the party secretary seeking relief from his new post.Contacted, Shamim, who was party’s assistant office secretary in the previous committee, told UNB, “I’ve sent a letter to the secretary general requesting him to relieve me from the post of assistant publicity affairs secretary.”
