Bnp standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Saturday warned that fanatics will raise their ugly heads if the political forces are made fragile through repressive acts. He said that BNP is deprived of the opportunity of practicing democratic politics.
“BNP is a democratic and liberal party, but the party is not allowed to exercise democratic politics. Now the democratic forces are being made weak by snatching their rights to hold rallies, programmes and carry out democratic activities. It can’t be good for people or for the government,” he said. The BNP leader further said, “The extremism and militancy will surely emerge if the political forces are made feeble. So, it’s the government’s responsibility to restore democratic environment in the country.”
He came up with the remarks while addressing a doa mahfil at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters. Dhaka City unit BNP arranged the programme seeking salvation of the departed soul of party organising secretary Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu on the occasion of Shab-e-Meraj.
Former BNP MP Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, a convict in DBR carnage case, was pronounced dead at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on May 3 after he had been taken there from Rajshahi Central Jail.
Recalling the contributions of Pintu to the party, Moudud said the vacuum created in the party at his death will never be filled.
He urged the government to form a judicial probe body to unearth the actual reason behind the death of Pintu in jail as various questions arisen in public mind over his ‘mysterious death’. – Unb
