Dhaka – Farhad Mazhar is still appears to be traumatized and panic-stricken. He often shivers after opening his eyes in his bed at a cabin of Birdem hospital, said his hospital attendant.Prof Dr AKM Musa, the attending physician of Farhad Mazhar, however, told journlaists over telephone that the condition of his patient was stable and he was facing no problem.
The medicine specialist declined to further elaborate about his problems of blood sugar and hypertension.
His (Farhad) treatment is going on as he has problems with blood sugar and hypertension. However is condition is better than yesterday (Tuesday), said Shima Das, director of Ubinig, a community based and community led research and advocacy organization.
Shima is taking care of Farhad Mazhar, who has been admitted to Birdem Hospital Tuesday night following the court granted him for self-custody as he was recovered from Jessore 19 hours after he went missing.
Farhad Mazhar is undergoing treatment at Cabin No. 1106 of Birdem Hospital under supervision of internal medicine specialist Prof Dr AKM Musa.
On duty nurse Jannatul Ferdous said they are conducting some tests for him to assess his physical condition. The physicians will give the update on his condition after completion of his tests, she said.
Meanwhile, the abduction case of Farhad Mazhar has been shifted to Detective Branch of police for further investigation.
The case has been transferred to DB from Adabar Police Station at the directive of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon Police Biplob Kumar Sarker said yesterday.
After recovery of Farhad Mazhar the general dairy filed by his family with Adabar Police Station was accepted as a regular complain after recording confessional statement of Farhad under section 164.
In the statement he said soon after he come out from his residence, some unidentified person forcibly took him away blindfolded through a microbus. He did not know any of them and they did not demand any ransom from him.
In another development, speaking at function at Tongi Police Station, Minister for Home Affairs yesterday said that police deserves thanks as they hjave been able to recover Farhad Mazhar unhurt.
He hoped the mystery behind his abduction would be unveiled very soon.
Farhad Mazhar, known as a pro-opposition intellectual, went missing from near his Adabar residence Monday morning. His family claimed he was kidnapped.
After Farhad Mazhar was picked up, his phone was used to call his wife. Over the phone at 5:29am, Farhad Mazhar had said that “they are taking him away and they would kill me.” The people who had picked him up were demanding ransom of 35 lakh taka.
Farhad Mazhar was recovered at 11:30 Monday night from a Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus at Abhoynagar in Jessore. The bus was coming from Khulna, according to the police.
DB police interrogated his fro about two hours before producing him to the court for recording his statement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court recorded his statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedures of Code (CrPC) yesterday and the same court granted him self custody upon his petition. – Staff Reporter
