Dhaka- The farmers have been showing keen interest in different varieties of lemon cultivation in the district in recent years.Before, farmers used to cultivate lemon as a house hold fruit but they have started the cultivation in commercial basis. Around one year ago, some farmers of the district experimentally cultivated lemon and found bright economic prospect in it. Now they are getting interest in different varieties of lemon cultivation.Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said, a total of 432 hectors of land were brought under lemon cultivation in the district this year. Farmers are growing Kagoji, Elachi, and Colombo lemon as there is a great demand of the lemons in the market,BSS.DAE officer of Amtali upazila Badrul Alam said working at lemon garden does not require much labour and there is less attack of pests. Meanwhile, the officials of DAE are giving necessary advices to the growers.Deputy Director of DAE Shahi Noor Reja Khan said lemon has great demand in local markets as well as in the country and abroad. Farmers would get handsome profit through cultivating the lemon, he expects.He urged the farmers to take necessary technical advices from the agriculture department in this connection.
