Ferry services on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi and Daulatdia-Paturia routes in the Padma river resumed after several hours’ disruption caused by dense fog on Monday morning.Abdul Alim, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Shimulia ghat, said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the water vessels from 3:00 am to 10:30 am due to blurred visibility for dense fog.Six ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers were kept anchored at Shimulia and Kewrakandi ferry terminals from 3am, while six ferries remained stranded in the mid-river.Several hundred vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing. However, ferry services resumed around 10:30 am as fog disappeared after the sunrise.Meanwhile, ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route in the Padma river also remained suspended for about four hours on Monday morning.Mahiuddin Rasel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha, said their ferry services as well as the plying of other water vessels came to a halt from 5:00 am due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog.Two ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers were kept anchored at Daulatdia, three ferries at Paturia.Besides, eight ferries had come to a stop in the middle of the Padma river since 5:00 am.Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing.Ferry services on the important route resumed around 9:00 am as fog started disappearing after the sunrise. -UNB, Munshiganj
