Five-day Durga Puja celebration begins in Rangpur division

The Hindu community people began celebrations of their greatest religious festivity of Durga Puja with due religious fervour and enthusiasm through ‘Bodhan’ in all eight districts under Rangpur division since Thursday.
Hundreds of the Hindu devotees including men, women, boys, adolescents, girls and youths started thronging different Puja mandaps since yesterday afternoon for having a glance at goddess Durga and seeking her blessings for their well-being.According to official sources, the concerned administrations, law enforcers and Puja Udjapan Parishad Committees (PUPCs) have taken adequate steps to ensure peaceful and smooth celebrations of the festivity. The mandap premises both in rural and urban areas have worn eye-catching looks with traditional fairs where cottage industry products, handicrafts, toys, household goods, sweets and other
traditional things are being marketed.The celebration will end through immersions of the idols erected in nearly 5,100 Durga Puja mandaps in all the eight districts of the division after celebration of the ‘Moha Dashami’ on October 14 next.The government has already distributed 2,100 tonnes of rice among the puja mandap authorities along with distribution of cash money from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to assist the Hindu community people celebrating their greatest religious festival. Talking to BSS here last night, the Hindu devotees expressed satisfaction and happiness over the steps taken by the government adding that they have been offering prayers, puja, archana, kirtons and other religious rituals peacefully.The Deputy Commissioners, Police Supers, UNOs, officials, politicians, leaders of different socio-cultural organisations and PUPCs have been visiting the puja mandaps and extending all necessary cooperation to the Hindu community people.Convener of Rangpur district unit of PUPC Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick Babu Sona thanked the government, concerned administrations
