Foggy weather forces closure of Mawa-Kawrakandi Ferry service

Dhaka – Foggy weather yesterday forced the authority to suspend ferry services at Mawa-Kawrakandi ghat for five hours leading to untold suffering to the commuters of the way.On the other hand civil aviation sources said the foggy weather caused anomalies of landing of two international flights.
Met office sources said such foggy weather would continue for the next 72 hours.
Wahidur Rahman, station air traffic officer of Civil Aviation, said a regent airways flight from Muscat failed to touch down Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport due to dense fog and forced to land on Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Another Biman Bangladesh flight from Abu Dhabi landed on Shah Amanat International Airport in the morning about half an hour later the schedule time, he said.
Khaled Newaz, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, said they suspended ferry services at Mawa-Kawrakandi ghat from 12:00am to 5:00am today due to dense fog in the Padma river. The ferry services in the route had also been suspended for two hours on Monday, he said.
Abdur Rahman, a meteorologist, said the foggy weather is still continuing and it is likely to continue for two-three days further. – Staff Reporter
