Fool-proof Security for Pahela Boishak, says DMP Commissioner

Dhaka – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzaman Miah on Monday said all security measures have been taken to ensure foolproof security of  Pahela Baisakh  celebration venues in the capital.
Nine observation towers will be set up in the main venues– Ramna Batamul, Teachers-Student Centre (TSC) and Suhrawardy Udyan areas– for ensuring smooth celebration of the first day of the Bangla New Year, which will be celebrated on April 14, he said while briefing reporters at DMP media centre.The whole areas will be monitored with CCTV cameras and three control rooms, Besides, special teams will be on duty to prevent pick pocketing, mugging and eve teasing in thoseareas, he said.
The DMP Commissioner said no one will be allowed to wear masks and playing Vuvuzela on the day to avert any unpleasant incident. Specialised police team “Special Weapon And Tactics-SWAT” will guard the ‘Mongol Shobhajatra’ to be brought out by the students of the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University.
He said all the programmes of Pahela Baisakh must end by 5:00 pm while no one will be allowed to enter the main venues after 4:30 pm.
Besides, carrying of matches and lighters at the programme venues was also prohibited, he said.
The DMP Commissioner also said that no vehicles of outsiders will be allowed to enter inside the Boishakhi celebration points from early hours of April 13 to 9:00 pm on April 14.
Replying to a question, he said they had no threat in connection with the Boishakhi programme. Expressing sorrow over the last year’s incident when several females were sexually harassed, the Commissioner said a case was filed in this connection and several perpetrators have already been identified. Of them, one was arrested by DB police.
He urged the city dwellers to enjoy the pohela boishakh programmes with festive mood as all security measures have all ready taken. “Only Allah knows whether there will be any subversive act or not,” he said replyinhg to a question of a reporter.
