Four women one child among 8 killed in Sirajganj road mishap


Sirajganj – Eight people, including four women and one child, were killed and seven others injured in a collision between an oil tanker and a human hauler at Garadah on the Bogra-Nagarbari Highway in Shahjadpur upazila on Tuesday morning.The deceased were identified as Makbul Hossain,40, Banya,10, daughter of Rajab Ali, Rajufa Khatun,60, wife of Hasen Pramanik, Jalal Uddin,40, and his wife Anjana Khatun,25, Firoza Begum,35, wife of Razaul Karim, Renu Khatun,40, wife of Tara Miah, and the human hauler driver Abdus Sobhan,40, all residents of Boro Maharajpur village of the upazila, said Abdul Kader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station.
Police said one of the wheels of the Baghabari-bound oil tanker from Ullahpara punctured and the vehicle collided with the human hauler coming from the opposite direction in the area at about 6:15 am, leaving five people dead on the spot and 10 others injured.
Of the 10 injured, two died on way to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital while one of them succumbed to his injures at the hospital later.
Officer-in-charge of Shahjadpur Police Station Rezaul Haque confirmed the incident.
Shahjadpur upazila nirbahi officer Shameem Ahmed told the UNB reporter each of the victims’ families will be given Tk10,000 as compensation form the local administration.- Agencies
