Dhaka, March 19 – Every year, the Francophone community celebrates and promotes worldwide the use of the French language as well as cultural and linguistic diversity.Journée internationale de la francophonie is celebrated around the world every year on 20 March to rejoice the love for French language, the cultural diversity and harmony it beckons, as well to foster the values of peace, democracy, respect for human rights and sustainable development.
Seven member-countries of Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) are officially represented in Bangladesh and contribute to the celebration. The countries are: Canada, Egypt, France, Morocco, Switzerland, Vietnam, and as an observer member, Qatar. From 19 to 24 March the Francophone diplomatic missions in Bangladesh, together with Alliance f
rançaise are set to offer activities such as theatre performance, pétanque competition,speech contest, cooking competition, Short Film Festival, visit to Lalbagh Fort guided in French language, translation competition, Inter-University quiz competition, French song concert and many more. The Ambassador of France hosts a reception with friends of Francophonie with a cello and piano performance to wrap up the week of celebration.
Worldwile, the International Organisation of La Francophonie represents one of the biggest linguistic zones in the world. Its members share more than just a common language. They also share the humanist values promoted by the French language. The French language and its humanist values represent the two cornerstones on which the International Organisation of La Francophonie is based.
The International Organisation of La Francophonie was created in 1970. Its mission is to embody the active solidarity between its 84 member states and governments (58 members and 26 observers), which together represent over one-third of the United Nations’ member states and account for a population of over 900 million people, including 274 million French speakers.
IOF organises political activities and actions of multilateral cooperation that benefit French-speaking populations. Its actions respect cultural and linguistic diversity and serve to promote the French language, peace and sustainable development. – AF Dhaka Press release
