Garo woman rape prime accused Rubel confesses guilt

Dhaka – Rafsan Hossain Rubel, 25, the prime accused in the Garo woman rape case, made confession to a Dhaka court admitting his involvement in the incident on Sunday.Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka recoded the statement after BM Mamun, Sub-Inspector of Badda Police Station and also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced him to the court on expiry of his six-day remand.
Earlier on November 11, some members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rubel, son of Mafiz Uddin Miah of Mistritala, Hasan Uddin Road of Uttar Badda, from the Airport Railway Station area of the capital.
When SI Imran and Constable Dipak Chandra of Badda Police Station took Rubel to the court to record his confessional statement, when he escaped from their custody on the day. He was kept in a room from where he fled. On the occasion, police men- Emran and Dipak Poddar were suspended for their alleged negligence.
Later, a team of police of Badda Police Station rearrested Rubel in front of Suvastu Tower on November 15, three days after his escaped.
The Garo woman of 22 years, a resident of Khilkhet area in the capital was returning home from her workplace, was raped on the night of May 21, last year by five unidentified persons. Later, she lodged a complaint with the police station on October 28. – Special Correspondent
