Gazipur Metropolitan Police starts operation

Dhaka, Sept 17 – The Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), the 7th metropolitan police in the country, officially started it’s journey on Sunday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Gazipur Metropolitan Police through a video conference from Ganabhaban at 11 am. GMP commissioner Y.M.Belalur Rahman talked with the prime minister during a video conference from an inaugural programme organized at Gazipur police lines premises. Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque , state minister for Women and Children affairs ministry Meher Afrouse Chumki, Zahid Ahsan Rasel MP, superintendent of Gazipur police Shamsunnahar were present in the inaugural programme. A colourfull procession was brought out from the police lines that paraded the important streets of the city. A cultural programme was also organized in this occation.
Gazipur city corporation was formed on January 16 in 2013 with 330 square kilometer areas. After four years of forming Gazipur city corporation, the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) was formed on October in 2017 in order to improve the law and order situation in the city corporation areas. After 10 months, GMP logo was finalized on 9 September in 2018. Earlier, the Gazipur Metropolitan police act 2018 was passed in the national parliament on April 19 in this year.
Gazipur metropolitan police’s Commissioner Y M Belalur Rahman said, the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) started it’s journey with eight newly formed police station included Gazipur sader police station, Bason, Konabari, Kashimpur, Gachha, Pubail, Tongi (east) and Tongi (west). In the meantime, 1,152 police personnels have also been appointed in the GMP. Apart from this, all the preparations, including their posting and the building rent for the police station, have been completed. – Staff Reporter
