‘Gold smuggler’ held with 21 gold bars in Benapole


Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a suspected gold smuggler along with 21 gold bars, weighing 2.5 kg, from Benapole check post area here on Tuesday.The arrestee was identified as Nur Islam, son of Babar Ali of Gatipara village.Tipped off, a team of BGB-26 conducted a drive in the area arrested Nur Islam while crossing the border in the afternoon, said BGB-26 Commanding officer Colonel Mohammad Jahangir Hossain.The BGB members recovered the gold bars worth Tk 1.10 crore kept hidden in his shoes.After interrogation, Nur Islam said the owner of the gold bars is Piarul, owner of MM Paribahan.A case was filed in this connection. -UNB, Benapole
