‘Gold smuggler’ placed on remand in Jessore


A court here on Sunday placed Nur Islam, who was arrested by members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along with 2.5 kilograms gold from Benapole Check Post on April 7, on a two-day remand.Jessore Judicial Magistrate Pronab Kumar passed the order when police produced the accused gold smuggler before the court seeking seven days’ remand for him.Earlier on April 7, members of BGB arrested Nur Islam, a staff of a land port agent, along with 21 pieces of gold bars weighing 2.5 kilograms from no-man’s-land area of Benapole.
The market value of the recovered gold is Tk 1.25 crore.BGB filed a case in this connection. -UNB, Benapole
