Gold worth Tk 3.5 cr seized at Shahjalal airport


Dhaka – Officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) early on Sunday seized seven kilograms of gold worth about Tk 3.5 crore from the cargohold of a flight of Singapore Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.The gold consignment was brought keeping hidden inside clothes roll, said CIID director general Dr Moinul Khan.Based on secret information, a team of customs intelligence cordoned off the flight ‘SQ446′ coming from Singapore after it landed at the airport at around 10:40 pm, said Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) director general Moinul Khan.The CIID first identified the suspected gold consignment carrying four clothes rolls from the Cargohold. After scanning the four clothes rolls, presence of gold was detected in one of the clothes rolls.After searching the identified clothes roll, the CIID recovered seven gold bars, each weighing around one Kg, from inside the clothes roll. Present market value of the seized gold around Tk 3.50 crore.After scrutinizing documents of the clothes consignment, it was known that one Robin sent the shipment and Arfat Fabrics industry of Dhaka was supposed to receive it.UNB news agency
