Govt accused of conspiracy to foil BNP’s March council

BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman yesterday accused the ruling party lawmakers of resorting to plunder and corruption in the name of development.
“The ruling party’s MPs are involved in corruption and plundering wealth in the name of implementation of development projects without bothering the prime minister’s caution,” he said while addressing a protesting rally at Bhasani auditorium in the city. The BNP leader alleged that the ruling party lawmakers are misappropriating all the money instead of spending them to construct roads they planned for.
“They are beating police and assaulting administrative officials. There is no law for them. On the other hand repressions are being carried out on the opposition leaders and activists illegally,” he said.
Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, the youth front of the BNP, organised the rally protesting attacks on the residence of party standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and demanding withdrawal of cases filed against Juba Dal general secretary Saiful Alam Nirob.
Presided over by Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, president of the organisaiton, the rally was also addressed, among others, by Shirin Sultana, Abdus Salam Azad and Fazlur Rahman.
Earlier in the morning, Abdullah Al Noman told reporters that sedition case has been filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to foil the party council scheduled to be held on March 19.
He was talking to reporters after placing wreath at the mazar of BNP founder late President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The BNP leader along with party colleagues placed the wreath at Zia’s mazar as the former organising secretary Anisur Rahman Talukder has been freed from prison recently.
BNP leaders—Amanullah Aman and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, were present on the occasion. – Staff Reporter
