The government on in late November issued the guideline for admission at government high schools, making admission in grade one through lottery mandatory.
According to the guideline, the students will have to be selected through lottery for admission in class 1 and the draw must be held in transparent manner in presence of the admission committee members.
The waiting list of the aspirants will also have to be prepared along with the selection process. If the selected ones fail to complete admission in time, students from the waiting list will gradually be called upon.
Last year, the lottery system was introduced for the first time for admission in class 1 in the government high schools.
As per the guideline, students will be selected from grades two to eight based on the merit list following a written test while the ninth grade students will be enrolled based on their Junior School Certificate (JSC) examination results.
In case of the sixth grade students’ enrolment, 10 percent of the total seats will be reserved for the students coming from government primary schools.
Also, five percent seats will be reserved for the children of freedom-fighters and two percent for children with disabilities.
The price of admission form this year has been fixed at Tk 100, but not more than Tk 700 can be charged as admission and session fees, according to the guideline.
Fifty percent of the total earnings from the admission form sales will go the expenses for taking the admission test while the remaining fund will have to be deposited with the admission committee.
A 13-strong committee led by the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will be formed to oversee the admission process only in the Dhaka metropolitan area.
Apart from that, an eight-strong committee led by Deputy Commissioners (DC) will be formed in the districts and another four-member committee led by the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) will be formed in the upazilas outside the capital to oversee the admission.
