A reliable source in Britain said that Bangladesh government rejected offers of search and rescue teams from Britain and other countries to free people trapped in collapsed Rana Plaza of Savar. The source added, foreign offers to provide experienced disaster rescue teams, which could potentially have saved more lives, were turned down last week.
Documents in this regard disclosed that both foreign and home ministries rejected the offers because they feared that accepting aid would damage national pride.
The documents also disclosed a foreign diplomatic campaign to persuade the government to accept the assistance, and face-saving suggestions on keeping it low-key to avoid offending Bangladeshi sensitivities.
At least 385 garments workers have been found dead and thousands others injured as an 8-storied building—Rana Plaza—collapsed in Savar bus stand area of Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
After several raids in different areas of some districts, members Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sohel Rana, owner of the collapsed building—Rana Plaza—from Benapole in Jessore on Sunday afternoon. banglanews24.com
