Handicapped youth scalded over theft charge in Laxmipur


A physically challenged young man was tortured inhumanly at the local bus terminal in the district town early Monday over a theft charge.He sustained severe burn injuries as the torturers scalded him with burning polythene bags.The victim was identified as Salauddin, son of Safique Ullah of Rasulpur village in Sadar upazila of the district.Police and victim’s family members said when Salauddin was returning home from the bus terminal after coming from Feni, some young men caught him around 2am suspecting him to be a chief.Later, they tied him with a tree and tortured him. Later, the attackers left him by the road with his hands and legs tied.Informed by locals, his family members rescued him and took him to Sadar Hospital in a critical condition.Meanwhile, victim’s brother Moin Uddin filed a case against 25 unidentified people with Sadar Police Station on Monday.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of the police station M Abdullah Al Mamun Bhuiyan said they were trying to arrest the culprits. -UNB, Laxmipur
