More than 10.73 lakh students sit for Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations across the country this morning amid an apprehension of hartal hampering their tests in coming days.Though the BNP-led 20-party alliance did not enforce any shutdown today, it called a fresh 24-hour hartal from Thursday morning, causing concern among the students and parents.
The party enforce the hartal to press home various demands including return of its leader Salahuddin Ahmed and other missing leaders, said a press statement issued by Barkat Ullah Bulu, a joint secretary general of BNP.
However, the Dhaka and Chittagong city corporation areas will remain out of purview of the shutdown due to the upcoming elections to the cities.
But, the alliance will hold demonstrations across the country today demanding the return of all victims of enforced disappearance, release of opposition leaders and activists, stopping mass arrest and holding a fair election under non-partisan government.
The hartal beginning at 6:00am on Thursday will end on Friday and Dhaka and Chittagong cities will be kept out of the preview of hartal, said the statement., – Staff Reporter
