Dhaka-The High Court on Monday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why they should not be directed to take necessary steps to stop strike by doctors and nurses in order to ensure uninterrupted medical services. An HC bench comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice AKM Shahidul Huq passed the order following a public interest litigation petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
In the rule, the court also wanted to know why the inactiveness of the respondents to bring an end to strike by doctors and nurses should not be declared illegal.
The health secretary, the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services and the directors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, BSMMU, Mitford Hospital and Suhrawardy Hospital among 23 have been made respondents to the rule.
The respondents have also been asked to explain as why they should not be directed to take legal action against those responsible for launching attacks on doctors and nurses in the hospital areas.
Advocate Manzill Murshid stood for the petitioner while assistant attorney general Arabinda Kumar Roy represented the state.
Earlier on Sunday, Manzill Murshid, on behalf of the HRPB, filed the writ petition with the High Court seeking its directives on the authorities concerned to take steps so that doctors and nurses do not call any strike.
The lawyer said medical services at different hospitals are hampered due to the strike enforced by the doctors and nurses, causing immense sufferings to patients.
