HC rule to compensate flyover grider fall victim

Dhaka – The High Court (HC) on Wednesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why it will not direct them to pay compensation of Tk 5 million to the family of the worker, killed after the concrete girder of the under-construction Malibagh-Mouchak flyover collapsed on him, and Tk 3 million each to the families of other two who were injured during the incident.Two-member HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque passed the order after hearing on a writ petition filed by Children's Charity Foundation of Bangladesh, a human rights organisation.
Secretary and Chief Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Chief engineers of Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation, Officer-in- Charge of Ramna Model Police Station and Managing Director of Toma Construction have been ordered to respond to the rule within four weeks.
On March 13, worker Shwapan, 40, hailing from Pakundia Upazila of Kishoreganj was killed and Toma Group Engineer Polash and Nurunnabi, learned to be a pedestrian, were injured as a concrete made girder of the under-construction Malibagh-Mouchak flyover collapsed at Malibagh level-crossing in the capital.
Later, Children's Charity Foundation of Bangladesh filed the writ petition on June 3. Barrister Abdul Halim stood for the petitioner moved the writ petition.
