HC stays trial proceedings of 4 cases against Khaleda

Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday (Thursday) stayed the trial proceedings of four sabotage cases filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The court also issued four separate rulings asking the government to explain as to why the proceedings of the cases against the BNP chief should not be scrapped.A High Court bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah passed the order after hearing on separate petitions filed by Khaleda Zia’s lawyers.
Of the four cases, three were filed with Darus Salam Police Station and the other with Jatrabari Police Station in 2015. The concerned officials of the government have been made respondent to the rule which is returnable in four weeks.
On Wednesday, Khaleda Zia filed separate appeal petitions seeking cancellation of the trial proceedings of the four cases.
Advocates Zainul Abedin and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon stood for Khaleda Zia in the court while Deputy Attorney General Sheikh AKM Maniruzzaman Kabir represented the state. – Special Correspondent
