The court granted plea of the former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s counsel and fixed Nov 8 for the next hearing.Supreme Court Lawyer Mamtaj Uddin Mehedi, a member of the ruling Awami League central committee, filed the case against the BNP chief on Jan 25 after she expressed doubts on the number of martyrs, that the government claims were killed during the 1971 Liberation War. Mamtaj Uddin Mehedi filed the case on Jan 25 perhaps after receiving a green signal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Metropolitan Magistrate Rashed Talukder took cognisance of the charges and ordered the BNP Chief to appear to his court on Mar 3 to explain her position about the incident. In August, Khaleda Zia appeared to the court and secured bail in the case. The court had then fixed Oct 10 for hearing in the case. -Special Correspondent
