They were picked up a year back by the people who identified themselves as RAB personnel but the  police unit never admitted arresting them and yet they are still missing.
Families of the eight missing people appealed to the government, particularly the prime minister, at a media call in Dhaka on Thursday to find their dear ones.“I want my father back,” said 4-year-old ‘Arsha’, whose passionate appeal spoke for all others in the press meet.
The eight, including BNP general secretary of Dhaka’s Ward 38 unit Sajedul Islam Sumon, were picked up on Dec 4 last year during the BNP-led alliance’s anti-government movement.
Families said they were arrested at Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar and Shaheenbagh and taken away in a vehicle sporting ‘RAB-1’. However, RAB denied arresting them.
The families convened the press conference following their futile efforts to trace by moving RAB, the home ministry, and other agencies.
Sumon’s daughter Arsha repeated ‘I want my father back’ thrice as soon as she was given the microphone to say something.
“I haven’t seen my father for long. I want to see my father only once. You find my father,” she said sobbing.
Sumon, Zahidul Karim Tanvir, Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Masum, Mazharul Islam Russell, Asaduzzaman Rana and Al-Amin were picked up from near Bashundhara City and Swechchhasebak Dal leaders Adnan Chowdhury and Kawsar Ahmed from Shaheenbagh.
Kawsar’s mother Kamala Akter, who came to the press meet with a big portrait of her son in her hand, said some people, identifying themselves as RAB members, arrested him at their Shaheenbagh residence.
“Kawsar is my only son. I had to struggle a lot to educate him. He used to tell me that he won’t allow me to struggle any more once he got a job. Now everything is finished. My sufferings are endless,” she said.
Sumon’s sister Sanjida Islam Tuli was holding the microphone as a sobbing Kamala spoke, but she could not hold back her tears when her turn came.
She said: “I can no more bear the pain of losing my brother… We don’t want this life anymore.” – -bdnews24.com
