Panchagarh – Persistent heavy rains for past two days have waterlogged the low lying areas of the district including the Panchagarh municipality creating huge suffering to the locals.All the roads and houses of the city have been inundated as the drainage system and sewerage line were not cleaned regularly, locals said.
Incessant rains and water from high lands swept over the district increasing the water level of all the local rivers including Karatoa River.
Water Development Board said water of Karatoa River was flowing just two centimeter under the danger level.
Different areas of municipality including Islambag, Dokropara, Kayetpara, Uttor Zalashi, Stadium Road were submerged by the dirty water of drainage.
Mosharaf Hossain, a local City’s Zalashi area said “Little rain cause waterlogging here as there is no proper drainage system exists in the city for water disposition.”
Meanwhile, municipality mayor Md Towhidul Islam admitted about the waterlogging of some areas and said the construction work of fresh drainage system and road was underway at many areas.After the completion of some ongoing drainage works the problem will be solved, he said.UNB
