Hefazat-e-Islam, a radical Islamic group, threatened the government to enforce non-stop hartal from April 7 if 27 pro-liberation organisations do not call off their April 6 hartal immediately.They came up with warning in a press briefing at party’s Dhaka office at Lalbagh on Thursday morning.
While announcing the programmes, Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi said, “We have decided to hold the long march as part of our religious duty. Our programmes are not against the government.”
Hefazat-e-Islam has long march programme on April 6 while Bangladesh Islami Jote and 27 pro-liberation organisations called hartal for April 6 protesting anti-Islamic activities of Jamaat and demanding ban on the party.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday gave conditional permission to Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh to hold its Shapla Chattar rally at the city’s Motijheel on Saturday.
Hefazat-e-Islam is scheduled to hold its rally to press for its 13-point demand, including the arrest and punishment of ‘atheist’ bloggers.
DMP deputy commissioner (PR) Masudur Rahman told UNB over phone that Hefazat-e-Islam was given the permission to arrange its rally at the Shapla Chattar on several conditions.
As per the conditions, the rally will have to be kept limited from Shapla Chattar to Notre Dame College, it will have to be held from 11 am to 5:30pm, microphones cannot be used outside the specified areas and no political speech can be delivered at the gathering. UNB
